Tanjib Alam

Tanjib-ul Alam is one of the youngest lawyers practicing in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of photo-1024x768 (1)Bangladesh. As a mark of his extraordinary quality as a fine lawyer, he was enrolled as an Advocate of the Appellate Division within five years of his practice. Under usual circumstances, it requires a lawyer at least ten years to obtain permission to practice in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.

Tanjib-ul Alam was called to the Bar of England and Wales from the Hon’ble Society of Lincoln’s Inn in 1997. After successful completion of his LL.B from the University of London with unprecedented academic excellence in 1996, he became a member of the Hon’ble Society of Lincoln’s Inn and completed Bar Final course with specialization in International Trade Law and Conflict of Laws. The professional training in the Bar Final course in England has given him an edge in his practice as a young corporate lawyer. He joined Dr. Kamal Hossain and Associates in 1997, working there until June, 2009. During twelve years of legal practice as an Associate and Senior Associate, he handled briefs with diverse dimensions involving investors from almost all over the world and clients from the leading corporate houses in Bangladesh. He gained experience in dealing with energy and power generation under direct supervision of legendary energy law experts in Bangladesh.

As a corporate practitioner, he gathered first-hand experience in banking, syndication, telecom sector in Bangladesh, project financing, securitization, listing of public companies in stock exchanges, and advising foreign investors on regulatory issues in energy and telecommunication sector of Bangladesh.

Mr. Alam is now regarded as one of the leading corporate law expert in Bangladesh. Mr. Tanjib-ul Alam has been appointed as the Lead Consultant by International Finance Corporation (“IFC”) for drafting a new Companies Act for Bangladesh. The draft Companies Act has been submitted to the Government of Bangladesh as part of technical support programme between IFC and the Government of Bangladesh under the auspices of BICF.

In addition, Tanjib-ul Alam is one of the leading telecommunication law experts in Bangladesh. He was involved in drafting the Bangladesh Telecommunication Act, 2001. During the last ten years of telecom revolution in Bangladesh, Tanjib-ul Alam has been involved in ground-breaking transactions in the telecom sector of Bangladesh. He played key role in developing a number of products and solutions for the mobile operators in Bangladesh. There had not been any substantial telecom deal during last eight years in Bangladesh where Tanjib-ul Alam was not involved. One of the recent transactions where Tanjib-ul Alam acted as the lead lawyer was acquisition of 30% by NTT Decomo of a local mobile company and issuance of coupon bearing bond by Grameenphone and by Orascom.
