Munqualib Faruqui is a distinguished Barrister of the Hon'ble Society of Lincoln's Inn, London, UK, and serves as an Advocate before the District and Session Judge Court in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

 

He has developed substantial expertise across a broad spectrum of legal disciplines, including company law, employment law, constitutional law, contract law, banking and finance law, intellectual property law, taxation law, admiralty law, telecommunication law, competition law, construction law, service matters, criminal law and other specialised legal areas. His strong interest in litigation has enabled him to excel in drafting petitions, written statements, plaints, affidavits, and applications before all forums within the Bangladeshi legal system.

 

Munqualib regularly advises corporate giants such as Avery Dennison, BBC Bangladesh Ltd., Coca-Cola Bangladesh, Grameenphone Limited, Xiaomi Bangladesh Ltd, Renata PLC, Robi Axiata PLC, Grameen Danone Food Limited, Foodpanda Bangladesh Limited (Delivery Hero), YKK Bangladesh Pte Ltd. as well as entities such as Institution of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB), Bangladesh Medical University, Bangladesh Bank, etc. His advisory work includes a wide range of issues, including employment, regulatory compliance and correspondence, company matters, service matters, taxation, merger/demerger etc.

 

Munqualib’s efforts in drafting and briefing his Seniors significantly contributed to the firm obtaining favourable judgment and orders in numerous writ petitions, company matters, and civil and criminal matters before the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. In addition, his advocacy before the subordinate courts and tribunals of Bangladesh has enabled him to secure several favourable judgements and orders on behalf of our clients.

 

Munqualib’s notable professional experiences include representing Bangladesh, as the Employer, in an international construction law dispute over USD 257 million arising out of a USD 3.1 billion infrastructure project against a Chinese state-owned construction company (Contractor). Other significant litigation based experiences include successfully defending Grameenphone Limited in a proceeding concerning allegations of anti-competitive practices before the Bangladesh Competition Commission. Additionally, Munqualib’s contribution was vital in protecting the interests of foreign investors and shareholders of Rakeen Development Company (BD) Limited in a monumental company matter case involving several top firms and notable legal personnel in Bangladesh.

 

On the corporate and finance side, Munqualib acted as borrower’s counsel and advised Saudi Developers, Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) in securing a syndicated loan facility of USD 100 Million to finance the development of port infrastructure in Chittagong port i.e., "Patenga Container Terminal”.

 

Munqualib is also responsible for preparing Income Tax Reference Applications for clients such as Proctor and Gamble Bangladesh Private Limited, Robi Axiata Limited, L.M. Ericsson Bangladesh Ltd etc.

 

Aside from Tanjib Alam and Associates, Munqualib had acquired indispensable experience working in a solicitor firm in London, a non-profit organisation (British Council Bangladesh), a multinational company (Avery Dennison) and an international law firm. Munqualib Faruqui finished his undergraduate degree at BPP University, UK, followed by his Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) at City St George’s, University of London, UK.
